Tonight is Week 5 of the High School Football season, and the North Posey Vikings are at home vs Pike Central at 6:30 PM. The Vikings are 4-0 and ranked #8 in Class 2A in the Indiana Football Coaches Association poll. Pike Central is 0-4. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan have the radio call tonight on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.

Mt. Vernon Football is also at home this evening vs Princeton at 7:00 PM. Both teams are in search of their first win as the Wildcats and Tigers are 0-4. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck are on the radio broadcast this evening on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Tonight is also Homecoming for Mt. Vernon. The Homecoming Festival is from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM in the Football Parking Lot (West). Then at 6:35 PM, the Homecoming Court Presentation begins on the field. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM.

North Posey Junior/Senior High School is looking to hire a school nurse. The North Posey school district says the position will support the health and well-being of students and be part of the North Posey school community. Last night in local high school sports, North Posey Volleyball defeated South Spencer on the road to improve to 11-4.

North Posey Girls Soccer lost at Southridge, 4-1. Vikings Girls Soccer is 1-10 on the season.

North Posey Boys Tennis picked up a win vs Forest Park, 3-2. It’s win number 10 for the Vikings as they are 10-5 overall and 8-2 PAC.

Mt. Vernon Volleyball won at home vs Princeton in five sets. The Wildcats are 8-10.

Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer fell at home to Gibson Southern, 6-1. Wildcats Boys Soccer is 1-7 on the year.

Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer got shutout at Pike Central, 6-0. Wildcats Girls Soccer is 3-9 on the season.

 

From Major League Baseball on Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals had the day off. They start a three-game series at home vs the Washington Nationals tonight at 7:15 PM. It’s the final home series of the season for the Cardinals. St. Louis is 75-78.

The Chicago Cubs were also off from game action yesterday. They begin a three-game series at the Cincinnati Reds this evening at 5:40 PM. The Cubs are 85-68 on the season and tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for the top National League Wild Card spot.

In Cincinnati yesterday, the Reds lost the finale of their four-game series vs the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-2. Sal Stewart hit his 31st home in the loss for Cincinnati. The Reds lost 3-of-4 in the series and are 71-82 overall.

The Chicago White Sox won the opening game of their four-game series at home with the Detroit Tigers, 3-1. Munetaka Murakami hit a three-run home run for his 32nd home run of the season. The White Sox move to 78-75 and are tied with the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central Division. Game two of the series tonight vs the Tigers is at 6:40 PM.
