The Black Township Trustee Office has partnered with Community Action Plan of Evansville (CAPE) for this. It’s an opportunity to apply for help with your heating costs and stay warm this summer. The Posey County Sheriff’s Office says they are now accepting applications for deputy sheriff positions. The starting salary is nearly $59,000, with medical, dental and vision insurance, as well as retirement and supplemental retirement benefits. Deputies can also take home a county vehicle if they live in Posey County, or within 15 minutes of the county. Applications are being accepted until October 2nd and are available through the Posey County Sheriff’s Office app, or at the sheriff’s office on O’Donnell Road in Mt Vernon.
MSD of Mt. Vernon says they are looking to fill a full-time financial systems analyst position. The job pays between $66,625 and $76,875, depending on experience. The position will handle duties including database management, payroll backup, grant tracking, financial analysis, tax filing and assisting the C-F-O. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field, along with at least five years of experience in finance or accounting. Tomorrow night is Week 5 of the High School Football season, and the North Posey Vikings are at home vs Pike Central at 6:30 PM. The Vikings are 4-0 and ranked #8 in Class 2A in the Indiana Football Coaches Association poll. Pike Central is 0-4. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan have the radio call tomorrow night on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.
Mt. Vernon Football is also at home tomorrow evening vs Princeton at 7:00 PM. Both teams are in search of their first win as the Wildcats and Tigers are 0-4. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck are on the radio broadcast tomorrow evening on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Tomorrow night is also Homecoming for Mt. Vernon. The Homecoming Festival is from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM in the Football Parking Lot (West). Then at 6:35 PM, the Homecoming Court Presentation begins on the field. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM.
Last night in local high school sports, North Posey Girls Soccer lost at Evansville Day School, 2-1. Vikings Girls Soccer is 1-9 on the season.
North Posey Boys Tennis won a close match at home vs Southridge, 3-2. North Posey got three 3-set victories at #2 Singles, #3 Singles, and #2 Doubles. Vikings Boys Tennis improves to 9-5 and 7-2 PAC.
Tonight, in local high school sports, North Posey Volleyball travels to South Spencer. The JV match is at 5:00 PM and the Varsity match follows around 6:30 PM.
North Posey Girls Soccer is at Southridge at 5:00 PM.
North Posey Boys Tennis welcomes Forest Park at 4:30 PM.

From Major League Baseball on Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals lost their series finale at home vs the San Francisco Giants, 6-5 in 10 innings. The Cardinals rallied for two runs in the 9th inning to force extra innings but ultimately fell short. St. Louis only had five hits in the game and Nathan Church was the lone Redbirds player with a multi-hit game. The Cardinals lost 2-of-3 in the series and are 75-78. They have today off.
In Chicago, the Cubs earned a series win against the Atlanta Braves as they took the series finale, 8-4. Pete Crow-Armstrong went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI’s and hit a pair of home runs. He now has 44 home runs. Alex Bregman also had a big game going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI’s and connected for his 26th home run. The Cubs won 2-of-3 and are 85-68 on the year. They are still a 0.5 game in front of the Philadelphia Phillies for the top National League Wild Card spot. Chicago has today off.
The Cincinnati Reds were able to pick up a win at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-3. Elly De La Cruz hit his 28th home run and Dane Myers cracked his 7th home run. The Reds are 71-81 and look to split the four-game series today at 11:40 AM.
The Chicago White Sox lost their series finale in Cleveland vs the Guardians, 6-3. Tommy Pham hit a three-run home run for all the White Sox scoring. It was his first home run of the season. The loss puts the White Sox at 77-75 overall and a 0.5 game behind the Guardians for first place in the American League Central Division. Chicago does have a one game lead on the Texas Rangers for the last wild card spot in the American League. The White Sox get a four-game series underway at home tonight vs the Detroit Tigers at 6:40 PM.
