Last week, Indiana Governor, Mike Braun, extended Indiana’s suspension of the state Gas Usage Tax and Gas Excise Tax. It’s a move that he says will help keep fuel prices affordable for Hoosiers. Under Indiana's energy emergency statute, the tax holiday can now remain in effect for up to 120 days without legislative approval. State officials estimate the suspension saves motorists about 62 cents per gallon at the pump. The tax pause is expected to cost the state about $140 million per month. However, the Indiana Department of Transportation says it has sufficient reserves to cover the lost revenue without affecting current or planned road projects. The extension is scheduled to expire in July, with the possibility of one additional extension into August. Any further extensions would require action by the Indiana General Assembly.
