An eight-year-old Cynthiana girl has died following a crash on Interstate 64 in Gibson County. The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office says Isabelle Preske was killed in the crash, which happened around four Saturday morning near the 29-mile marker. According to Sheriff Bruce Vanoven, Preske was a passenger in a 2007 Jeep Liberty driven by her mother, Samantha Payne, both of Cynthiana. Investigators say the Jeep was traveling westbound when it crossed the grassy median and collided head-on with a 2005 GMC pickup traveling eastbound. Preske died at the scene before emergency personnel arrived. Payne was taken to an Evansville-area hospital for treatment. The occupants of the pickup were also transported for injuries. The sheriff’s office says the investigation remains ongoing. Once it’s complete, the findings will be submitted to the Gibson County Prosecutor’s Office for review. A GoFundMe has also been established to help Preske’s family with funeral expenses.

Expectant mothers have an opportunity to get a free, non-diagnostic ultrasound while helping train the next generation of sonography students at the University of Southern Indiana. USI’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is looking for women in their second or third trimester to volunteer for ultrasound sessions. The sessions are offered Tuesday and Thursday afternoons through December 3rd in the USI sonography lab. Students will practice capturing assigned images under the supervision of experienced faculty. Program Chair Amy Wilson says the experience gives students valuable hands-on practice before beginning their obstetric clinical rotations. And for expectant mothers, Wilson says it’s a chance to volunteer for student education while getting another peek at their babies. Appointments are required. To schedule a session, email usi1dms@usi.edu. More information is available at usi.edu/dms.
If you’re planning to hit the rides at this year’s West Side Nut Club Fall Festival, you can save some money by buying your wristbands ahead of time. West Side Nut Club officials say presale, all-you-can-ride wristbands are now available for $25 each through midnight this Sunday. Once the presale ends, wristbands will cost $30 at the ride ticket booths during the festival. There is also a $2.99 service fee per transaction, rather than per wristband.
