The Kiwanis Club of Poseyville is hosting its annual Poseyville Autumnfest this weekend, featuring three days of family activities, live music and community events. This year’s festival will celebrate 250 years of freedom, with a Bierstube opening tomorrow night at 6:00 PM, followed by inflatables, games, food vendors, a parade and fireworks throughout the weekend. Live music will include Kenna Elpers on Saturday, with additional music on Sunday.
Deaconess officials are celebrating the opening of the Tri-State’s first combined emergency and urgent care facility. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the new, 19,000 square foot facility at 5001 Healthy Way, near the intersection of Lynch and North Green River roads. The center will provide 24-hour access to emergency and urgent care, giving families another option when they need quick medical attention. The facility features board-certified emergency physicians, along with laboratory and radiology services. Deaconess Indiana Region President Dr. Brad Scheu says the goal is to make getting care easier for people in the community. The combined emergency and urgent care center is part of a larger, three-story development. The development will also include medical offices, imaging services and an outpatient laboratory.
Tomorrow night is Week 6 of the High School Football season and the North Posey Vikings travel to South Spencer to face the Rebels at 7:00 PM. The Vikings are 5-0 and ranked 8th in Class 2A in this week’s Indiana Football Coaches Association poll. The Rebels have won back-to-back games and are 2-3. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast tomorrow night on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.
Mt. Vernon Football is also on the road tomorrow evening as they battle the Southridge Raiders at 6:30 PM. The Wildcats are 1-4 on the season after they picked up their first victory of the year last week at home vs Princeton. The Raiders are also 1-4 and looking to end a three-game losing streak. Last night in local high school sports, Mt. Vernon Volleyball lost in straight sets at Memorial. The Wildcats are 9-12 on the season.
North Posey Boys Tennis lost at Mater Dei, 3-2. Vikings Boys Tennis is 11-7 overall.
Tonight, in local high school sports, North Posey Volleyball is at Tecumseh. JV match begins at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match follows around 7:00 PM.
North Posey Girls and Boys Soccer are both at home vs Heritage Hills. The girls’ match is at 5:30 PM and the boys’ match is after that match around 7:30 PM.
Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer is at home vs Boonville at 5:30 PM.
Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer travels to Castle at 5:30 PM.
Mt. Vernon Boys Tennis welcomes Tecumseh at 5:00 PM.
From Major League Baseball on Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals evened up their three-game series at the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 5-1 win. JJ Wetherholt had a three-hit game for the Cardinals and Matthew Liberatore picked up the win as he pitched 5.2 innings in his start. Liberatore allowed one run on six hits and struck out six. St. Louis improves to 77-81. They go for a series win in Pittsburgh today at 11:35 AM.
The Chicago Cubs lost at home vs the Miami Marlins, 3-2. Chicago has lost back-to-back games and are 87-71 overall. They hope to avoid a three-game sweep this afternoon at 1:20 PM.
The Chicago White Sox got beat 5-4 in Kansas City by the Royals. They have split the first two games of the series and are 81-77. The White Sox sit one game behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central, but their magic number is down to one game to clinch a Wild Card spot. The series finale in Kansas City is today at 1:10 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds lost the middle game of their series in Atlanta vs the Braves, 3-2 in 10 innings. The Reds are 73-85 after splitting the first two games of the series with the Braves. They conclude the series tonight at 6:15 PM.
