The updated Indiana Football Coaches Association rankings were released on Monday and the North Posey Vikings, who are off to a 6-0 start, continue to be ranked 8th in Class 2A. Other area teams that are ranked include Castle, who is ranked 9th in Class 5A. Then in Class 4A, Reitz is 7th. Class 3A has Memorial 1st, Gibson Southern 4th, and Mater Dei 6th. In Class 1A, North Daviess is 5th and Springs Valley is 8th.
North Posey Football Senior Running Back, Cade Mauck is in the running for Courier and Press Player of the Week. In the Vikings thrilling 56-55 overtime win at South Spencer last Friday, Mauck had 151 rushing yards, 108 receiving yards, and four total touchdowns. You can vote for him as many times as you would like at courierpress.com. Voting ends at 5:00 PM on Thursday.
Mt. Vernon Junior High School is inviting families to its annual Family Fun Night this Thursday. The event will take place from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM and is free for all M-V-J-H-S families. Activities will include swimming, rock painting, karaoke, bingo, a D-N-R wildlife presentation, and a movie on the school’s next playground with an inflatable screen. Free lemonade and popcorn will be available, along with a Bobcat candy mix for four dollars and a Chuck-a-Duck competition for one dollar. Students in attendance will also have a chance to win free door prizes.
Mt. Vernon High School is holding its annual Community Partners Food Drive this Friday, during the Wildcats’ football game at home against Heritage Hills. A group of Mt. Vernon High School students is leading this year’s food drive. All donations will benefit the local Mt. Vernon RiverBend Food Pantry. Community members can bring donations to the football game or drop them off at the high school’s main office before this Friday. Items especially needed include canned soups, vegetables and fruits, baking ingredients, rice and noodles. The food drive will run from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, as the Wildcats host Heritage Hills. Community members are encouraged to bring a donation and help support local families.
Tomorrow, there is a blood drive in Posey County that is set to make history while honoring the memory of a beloved community member. The American Red Cross says the “Love Like Abi” blood drive tomorrow has already set an all-time Posey County record, with 140 donors signed up. The event will be held on what would have been the birthday of Abi Williams, who died at age 39 on January 28th, 2023, following a nine-month battle with breast cancer. So far, “Love Like Abi” blood drives have collected 626 units of blood, potentially helping as many as 1,878 people. The record-setting blood drive is scheduled for tomorrow at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.
Last night in local high school sports, North Posey Boys Soccer lost at home to Princeton, 2-0. The Vikings are 5-8-1 overall.
Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer got beat at Reitz, 9-0. The Wildcats are 2-11 on the season.
Coming up tonight in local high school sports, North Posey Volleyball welcomes Wood Memorial. The JV match begins at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match is at 7:00 PM.
North Posey Boys Soccer takes on Forest Park at home at 5:00 PM.
North Posey Girls Soccer is also at home vs Mt. Vernon at 7:00 PM.

Major League Baseball Playoffs get underway today with game one of the best-of-three Wild Card Series. The Chicago White Sox are at the Houston Astros at 4:00 PM and the Chicago Cubs are out west at the San Diego Padres at 9:00 PM.
