Cynthiana native and country singer-songwriter Kenna Elpers is getting a shot on the national stage as a contestant on Season 30 of NBC’s “The Voice.” Blind Auditions have been airing this week, and after Elpers did not appear either Monday or Tuesday night, local fans will be watching for her when the auditions continue tonight on NBC. Elpers has been pursuing country music from a young age and later moved to Tennessee to further her career. She’s performed at venues including Lucas Oil Stadium, Busch Stadium and Nashville’s famed Bluebird Cafe, and has shared the stage with artists including Riley Green, Dylan Scott, Maddie & Tae and Craig Campbell. Local fans will have a chance to see her in person this weekend. Elpers is scheduled to perform Saturday at the Poseyville Autumnfest from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
North Posey Football is off to a 5-0 start this season and they continue to receive recognition in the weekly rankings. For Class 2A, the Viking are ranked 8th in this week’s Indiana Football Coaches Association poll. Other teams in the area that are also ranked include 8th ranked Castle in Class 5A. In Class 4A, Reitz is 7th and Heritage Hills is 13th. Class 3A has Memorial 1st, Gibson Southern 4th, and Mater Dei 5th. Finally, in Class 1A, North Daviess is 5th and Springs Valley is 7th.
The University of Southern Indiana is bringing a familiar face from ABC’s “Shark Tank” to campus tonight. Kevin O’Leary, known as “Mr. Wonderful” on the Emmy Award-winning show, will speak this evening as part of USI’s Romain College of Business Innovative Speaker Series. The event, titled “Mr. Wonderful, A-I and Wealth Creation,” begins at 6:30 PM at Liberty Arena, home of the Screaming Eagles. Doors open at 5:30 PM. O’Leary is expected to discuss artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and wealth creation. The evening will include a presentation followed by a moderated question-and-answer session with Dr. Nick Rhew, an associate professor of management and chair of Management and Information Sciences at USI. The event is free and open to the public, thanks to support from the USI Foundation.
Indiana Department of Transportation officials say lane closures are set to begin next week on State Road 62 in Posey County. The closures will affect State Road 62 from the Indiana state line to Herman Island Road. INDOT says the closures are needed for work on the Wabash River Bridge. Crews will make bridge deck and truss repairs, along with painting the bridge. The project is expected to continue through January of 2028, depending on weather conditions. One lane of traffic will remain open through the work zone, with a temporary traffic signal controlling traffic. INDOT is reminding drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling through or near the construction zone.
Evansville West Side Nut Club officials say the Half Pot is once again expected to be the largest Half Pot in America this year. The annual fundraiser gives participants a chance to win a substantial cash prize while supporting the community through the West Side Nut Club’s charitable efforts. Officials say this year’s Early Bird Prize will be $25,000 in cash. Tickets for the 2026 Half Pot go on sale one week from today on Wednesday, September 30th.
University of Evansville officials say a new financial aid initiative will cover undergraduate tuition and fees for qualifying students beginning with the fall 2027 freshman class. The university says all 21st Century Scholars and eligible Indiana residents from families earning $60,000 or less will have their tuition and fees fully covered. Those students will also receive an additional $2,500 each year for other educational expenses. Officials say students with the greatest financial need and strongest academic backgrounds may instead qualify for an enhanced award of up to $15,000 a year for on-campus housing and meals, in addition to having tuition and fees covered. The university says it’s providing more than $27 million in scholarships and grants this year, with nearly every undergraduate student receiving some form of financial assistance.
Last night in local high school sports, North Posey Volleyball lost at Southridge in five sets. The Vikings are 11-5 overall.
Mt. Vernon Volleyball won at Bosse. The Wildcats improve to 9-11.
North Posey Boys Soccer won at home vs Mt. Vernon, 3-2. The Vikings are 5-6 on the season and the Wildcats are 1-9.
North Posey Girls Soccer lost at home vs Pike Central, 6-0. Vikings Girls Soccer is 1-12 on the year.
North Posey Boys Tennis lost at Southridge, 5-0. The Vikings are 11-6 and 8-3 PAC.
Tonight, in local high school sports, Mt. Vernon Volleyball is at Memorial. JV match starts at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match is around 7:00 PM.

From Major League Baseball on Tuesday, the St. Louis Cardinals lost their series opener at the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-0. The Cardinals only had one hit in the game. They are 76-81. Game two of the series is tonight at 5:40 PM.
The Chicago Cubs lost at home to the Miami Marlins in 12 innings, 8-2. The Cubs are 87-70 and are tied with the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres for the top National League Wild Card spot. The series continues this evening at 6:40 PM.
The Chicago White Sox outslugged the Royals in Kansas City, 14-11. Randal Grichuk went 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs and hit his 14th home run. Chase Meidroth was 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs and crushed his 16th home run. Munetaka Murakami hit his 33rd home run and Brenton Doyle cracked his 4th home run. The White Sox are 81-76 and still one game behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the division but still control the final spot in the American League Wild Card chase. Game two of the series at the Royals is this evening at 6:40 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds shut out the Braves to begin their series in Atlanta, 4-0. Elly De La Cruz hit his 29th home run, Eugenio Suarez walloped his 25th home run, and Dane Myers collected his 8th home run. The Reds are 73-84. Game two of the series is tonight at 6:15 PM.
