North Posey Football improved to 5-0 on Friday night as they won easily at home vs Pike Central, 58-0. Vikings Head Coach, Waylon Schenk picked up his 100th career victory. North Posey led 45-0 at halftime and the starters saw little action in the second half. The Vikings are 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the PAC Small School Division. North Posey is at South Spencer this Friday for another PAC Small School matchup.
Mt. Vernon Football celebrated Homecoming on Friday with their first victory of the season as they defeated Princeton, 56-20. Eastin Hall opened the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown and added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. After the Wildcats defense forced a Princeton punt, Clayton Hamilton returned the ensuing punt 32 yards for a touchdown and Blake Bell’s extra point made it 15-0. The big plays kept coming as Ryan Lilleston broke loose for an 83-yard touchdown run, followed by a 51-yard scoring run from Saint Henderson. Paxton Boyd added a 14-yard touchdown before the end of the opening quarter, giving Mt. Vernon a commanding 35-0 advantage. Henderson struck again early in the second quarter with a 39-yard touchdown run. Moments later, Mt. Vernon recovered a bouncing kickoff deep in Princeton territory, setting up Hall’s second touchdown of the night on a three-yard run. Henderson then capped the first half off with a 44-yard touchdown, sending the Wildcats into halftime with a 56-0 lead. Mt. Vernon’s reserves played the second half. The Wildcats had 412 yards of offense and 379 of those yards came in the first half. Mt. Vernon is 1-4 overall and they travel to Southridge this Friday.

Indiana students looking to attend the University of Southern Indiana can apply for free this week. USI is waiving undergraduate admission application fees for Indiana students through Friday as part of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education’s annual College GO! campaign. The campaign provides resources to help students, counselors and teachers plan for education after high school. To receive the fee waiver, students must apply online at www.usi.edu/apply by midnight this Friday. Applicants should use the promo code “College GO 27.” University officials say students who apply will also automatically be considered for merit-based scholarships.
The University of Southern Indiana is bringing a familiar face from ABC’s “Shark Tank” to campus this week. Kevin O’Leary, known as “Mr. Wonderful” on the Emmy Award-winning show, will speak on Wednesday as part of USI’s Romain College of Business Innovative Speaker Series. The event, titled “Mr. Wonderful, A-I and Wealth Creation,” begins at 6:30 PM at Liberty Arena, home of the Screaming Eagles. Doors open at 5:30 PM. O’Leary is expected to discuss artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and wealth creation. The evening will include a presentation followed by a moderated question-and-answer session with Dr. Nick Rhew, an associate professor of management and chair of Management and Information Sciences at USI. The event is free and open to the public, thanks to support from the USI Foundation.
The Kiwanis Club of Poseyville is hosting its annual Poseyville Autumnfest this weekend, featuring three days of family activities, live music and community events. This year’s festival will celebrate 250 years of freedom, with a Bierstube opening Friday night at 6:00 PM, followed by inflatables, games, food vendors, a parade and fireworks throughout the weekend. Live music will include Kenna Elpers on Saturday, with additional music on Sunday.
Yesterday was Week 2 of the NFL season and the Indianapolis Colts lost a tough one in Kansas City to the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football 33-30 in OT. Jonathan Taylor rushed for two touchdowns in the loss. The Colts are 0-2.
The Chicago Bears fell to 1-1 after a 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at a rain-soaked Soldier Field in Chicago. The Bears struggled to generate offense in the defensive battle, and the loss was made more concerning when quarterback Caleb Williams left in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury.
In Nashville, the Tennessee Titans suffered a fourth-quarter collapse, falling to the Philadelphia Eagles 24-20. Tennessee led 20-17 late, but the Eagles scored the go-ahead touchdown with just 14 seconds remaining, dropping the Titans to 0-2.
The Green Bay Packers rallied for a ten-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Jets in New York 20-17 in overtime. Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes, and rookie kicker Trey Smack delivered the game-winning 26-yard field goal in overtime as the Packers improve to 1-1.
The Cincinnati Bengals are 2-0 after a convincing 20-6 road win over the Houston Texans. Joe Burrow threw two touchdown passes, both to Ja’Marr Chase and the Cincinnati defense held Houston to just six points after the Texans scored 31 in their season opener.
From Major League Baseball on Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals were able to avoid a three-game sweep and close the home portion of their schedule with a win vs the Washington Nationals, 5-3. Ivan Herrera hit a pair of home runs and Leo Bernal had the go-ahead two-run home run in the 8th inning. The Cardinals are 76-80. They have today off and will close the season with a three-game set at Pittsburgh Tuesday-Thursday and a three-game set at Milwaukee Friday-Sunday.
The Chicago Cubs hammered the Reds in Cincinnati, 9-1. Chicago outhit Cincinnati 13-4 and the Cubs offense was led by Pete Crow-Armstrong who was 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs. Crow-Armstrong also connected for his 45th home run. Chicago won 2-of-3 in the series and are 87-69 overall. They are tied with the San Diego Padres for the top National League Wild Card position. The Cubs are off today and finish their regular season schedule with a three-game series at home with the Miami Marlins Tuesday-Thursday and then a three-game series at the Boston Red Sox Friday-Sunday. For the Reds, they are 72-84 on the season and also have tonight off. Cincinnati closes the year with a three-game series at the Atlanta Braves Tuesday-Thursday and at the Toronto Blue Jays Friday-Sunday.
In Chicago, the White Sox continued their postseason push with an 8-1 win vs the Detroit Tigers. The White Sox won 3-of-4 in the series to move to 80-76. They are one game behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central Division, but they have control of the final American League Wild Card spot. Their lead for a playoff spot is three games over the Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros. The White Sox are off today and then play a three-game set at the Kansas City Royals Tuesday-Thursday and return home to take on the Colorado Rockies in a three-game set Friday-Sunday.
