Work has begun at Brittlebank park as part of a grant provided from the READY program. According to Mt. Vernon Mayor Bill Curtis, part of that work involves repairs to the lake which for some time has had leaking issues. Earlier in the year, repairs were performed on the lake, but some issues remained and therefore further repairs have become necessary. Once the repairs on the lake are completed, construction will begin on a walking trail in the park which will also be ADA compliant. Other updates in the park include the Avery's Place Playground which will be Posey County's first inclusive playground designed for all children including those with disabilities. According to Mayor Curtis, 42 acres of land were donated to the city by Philip Hagemann to help with future expansion of the park.

Many community members in Mt. Vernon are being advised to boil their water before consuming it. Saturday morning, Posey County Emergency Management announced a boil advisory for the west side of Parke Street in Mt. Vernon. Officials say the advisory was issued due to water supply problems and may continue through Wednesday or Thursday of this week. If you have any questions, you are asked to contact the Mt. Vernon Water Department.

Running back Zack Moss carried the ball 30 times for 122 yards. Indy is home against the Rams next Sunday for their Week 4 game.

Bears Quarterback Justin Fields was 11-for-22 for 99 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Chicago is 0-3 and they return home next week against the Broncos.

Titans Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was 13-for-25 for 104 yards, while running back Derrick Henry had just 11 carries for 20 yards. Titans fall to 1-2 and will host the Bengals next week. Browns improve to 2-1 and will welcome the Ravens in Week 4.

  • The Green Bay Packers trailed 17-0 after the third quarter at home to the Saints before scoring 18 unanswered points and clipping New Orleans, 18-17. Packers improve to 2-1 and have a quick turnaround as they get ready for the Lions at home on Thursday Night Football this week.

  • Other storylines from Sunday includes the Cardinals upsetting the Cowboys in Arizona, 28-16. It was Arizona’s first win of the year and for Dallas, it was their first loss. The Miami Dolphins score 70 points in a 70-20 route at home over the Denver Broncos. The 70 points scored was two shy of the NFL record. Dolphins are 3-0.

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (68-88) lost the finale of a 3-game series in San Diego on Sunday, 12-2. With six games left in the regular season, the Redbirds will be off today before heading to Milwaukee on Tuesday for a 3-game series with the Brewers.

  • The Chicago Cubs (82-74) picked up a huge win at home against the Colorado Rockies, 4-3. The Cubs sweep the 3-game series and maintain a one-game lead for the final wild card spot in the National League over the Miami Marlins. Chicago is off today and will start a 3-game series in Atlanta on Tuesday with the Braves.

  • The Cincinnati Reds (80-77) who are hanging on for dear life to their playoff hopes, picked up a much-needed win yesterday at home, 4-2 over the Pirates. Cincinnati is two and a half games back of the Cubs for the final playoff spot. The Reds don’t play today and will be in Cleveland on Tuesday for a brief 2-game series with the Guardians.
