Coming up this evening here on Posey County Radio is both the Mt. Vernon and North Posey Football Coaches Show. This past Friday was Week 3 of the regular season, and the Mt. Vernon Wildcats won their homecoming game against Pike Central, 56-27. They are now 2-1 on the year and will be at home against Washington this Friday at 6:30 PM. The Mt. Vernon Coaches Show tonight will be live from United Fidelity Bank in Mt. Vernon at 5:30 PM with host Allen Buck and Wildcats Head Coach Justin Fischer. You can hear the show on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.
The North Posey Football Coaches Show is also at 5:30 PM and it can be found on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. Host Jordan Fisher will catch up with Vikings Head Coach Waylon Schenk live from Straws Scoops in Poseyville. North Posey is 3-0 on the season after they picked up a road win at South Spencer this past Friday, 28-16. The Vikings journey to Tell City this Friday at 6:30 PM.
Mt. Vernon River Days is this Friday and Saturday. It all starts at 11:00 AM on Friday with the opening ceremony. The ceremony will take place by the American Legion Post #5. Some of the highlights for Friday include the “Smoke on the Ohio” BBQ Competition from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM. There will be free inflatables provided by Old National Bank at the kid zone from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM. The Little Miss and Mr. River Days Pageant is at 6:00 PM. Then at 7:30 PM on Friday the 2nd Annual Lighted Boat Prade in the Ohio will take place. Wolfgang’s Orchestra performs from 8:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Friday’s events end with Fireworks at 9:00 PM.
Mt. Vernon River Days on Saturday starts with the 5K Run at 8:00 AM in the courthouse area. There will be a Pet Parade at 10:00 AM and a Corn Hole Tournament at 11:00 AM. The “Smoke on the Ohio” BBQ Competition continues from 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM. There will be free inflatables again provided by Old National Bank at the kid zone from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Velvet Rode Band performs from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The Mt. Vernon River Days ends at 8:00 PM Saturday night.

The University of Southern Indiana is officially on the hunt for a new university president. At a regular meeting Thursday, the University of Southern Indiana Board of Trustees announced the members of the Presidential Search Committee. Christina Ryan, Chair of the Presidential Search Committee, is leading the committee, which will oversee bringing forward candidates for Board consideration and final approval. The search is expected to be completed by next summer.

Coming up tonight in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon JV Football heads to Pike Central for a 5:30 PM kickoff. North Posey JV Football is at home against South Spencer at 6:00 PM. Vikings Boys Tennis travels to Princeton for a 4:30 PM match. North Posey Girls Golf takes on Central on the road at 4:00 PM.
Week 1 of the NFL was yesterday, and the Indianapolis Colts lost at home to the Houston Texans, 29-27. The Colts defense allowed 213 rushing yards. Colts Quarterback Anthony Richardson was 9-for-19 passing for 212 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Indy plays at the Packers this Sunday.
The Chicago Bears didn’t score an offensive touchdown on Sunday, but it didn’t matter…as the Bears beat the Tennessee Titans in Chicago, 24-17. The Bears blocked a punt that was returned for a score, had a pick-6, and then three Field Goals was the winning recipe. Chicago plays at the Texans on Sunday and Tennessee welcomes the Jets.
The Cincinnati Bengals lost at home to the New England Patriots, 16-10. The Cincy defense gave up 170 yards on the ground and Bengals Quarterback Joe Burrow finished 21-for-29 passing for 164 yards. Cincinnati is at the Chiefs for Week 2 on Sunday.
The St. Louis Cardinals dropped the finale of their 3-game series at home with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, 10-4. The Cardinals lost 2-of-3 in the series and are now 72-71 on the season. St. Louis is off today and will welcome the Cincinnati Reds tomorrow night at 6:45 PM for a 3-game set.
The Chicago Cubs were able to salvage a game in their 3-game weekend series at home against the New York Yankees as the Cubs won the final game yesterday, 2-1. Chicago improves to 73-70 and will now head out west to start a 3-game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers this evening at 9:10 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds avoided a 3-game sweep at the New York Mets on Sunday with a 3-1 win. Cincy scored a pair of runs in the 9th inning to break the 1-1 tie. The Reds are 69-75 on the year. They play a makeup game with the Braves in Atlanta tonight at 5:40 PM.
