News:

Posey County Authorities are warning the public not to try to join the search for a missing man in the Ohio River. Black Township Fire and Rescue crews say an organized search continues for 44-year-old Richard Leinenweaver, who went missing Saturday after his boat overturned. Officials say river conditions and weather can create dangerous situations on the water. They’re asking the public to stay clear of the search area and not attempt to help on their own. Officials say keeping the area clear allows trained crews to focus all available resources on locating Leinenweaver.

Data centers remain a major topic of discussion in Posey County, as officials consider new rules that could change how those facilities are developed. The Posey County Area Plan Commission met Tuesday night to discuss proposed amendments to the county’s Unified Development Ordinance. The changes would remove the ability for data centers to be built by-right. Instead, developers would have to receive Special Exception approval before moving forward. The proposed rules would also place limits on data center development, including a 30-foot height restriction and a 1,000-foot setback from non-industrial properties. Commissioners say they’ve been researching data center developments across the country and listening to concerns from residents. Earlier this month, dozens of people asked county commissioners for a two-year moratorium on data center development, giving officials more time to study the potential impacts. Residents continued to push for a moratorium during Tuesday night’s meeting, saying more research is needed before the county moves forward. Others say they want to continue working with the Area Plan Commission to find regulations that address community concerns while allowing Posey County to move forward. The Area Plan Commission did not vote on the proposed amendments Tuesday night. Commissioners say they’ll continue taking public feedback before holding another public hearing on September 24th.
