Tri-State residents will no longer have to drive very far for a pediatric infusion. Deaconess has opened the Tri-State's first pediatric infusion center, giving families access to specialized treatment much closer to home. The new Deaconess Pediatric Infusion Center was unveiled Wednesday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the health system's Gateway campus. It's located on the third floor of Medical Office Building Six. Hospital officials say the center offers a child-friendly environment where young patients can receive infusion therapy for conditions including Crohn's disease, immune system disorders, neurological conditions, and other chronic illnesses. The facility features two private infusion bays and a shared treatment area that can accommodate up to three children at a time. To help make treatments more comfortable, the center also includes kid-friendly amenities like Nintendo Switch gaming systems, Disney Plus, and puzzles.

Tri-State Food Bank is getting a major boost to help feed families across the region. The organization received about 40,000 pounds of shelf-stable food on Wednesday, thanks to a donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The delivery is part of a nationwide effort marking America's 250th anniversary, with the church providing 250 truckloads of food to 250 food banks across the country. Tri-State Food Bank officials say the donation comes at an important time and will help meet growing community needs. The food will be distributed throughout the 33 counties the food bank serves. Similar deliveries are also being made to food banks in northern Indiana.

Evansville Animal Care and Control is asking for the community's help after recently reaching capacity. Shelter officials say they're seeing an increase in stray pets, and they add that other animal shelters across the area are also feeling the strain. Pet owners are encouraged to check the shelter and reclaim any lost animals as soon as possible. For those who can't adopt, officials say there are still plenty of ways to help. Community members can visit the shelter, spend time socializing with the animals, or volunteer to walk dogs through the shelter's "Walking Wednesday" program, which gives dogs a chance to get out of their kennels and enjoy some exercise and attention.
