Posey County Sherrif Office deputies, Marrs Township Fire, and Posey County EMS responded to a semi that crashed into a train on Ford Road yesterday afternoon. There were no injuries, as the crews were able to get the scene cleaned up from the crash. The Posey County Sherrif’s Office says this is the second vehicle versus train crash that their agency has responded to in the last two weeks. They remind the community to use extreme caution when approaching a railroad crossing. Drivers should use the stop, look and listen method to stay safe.
Drivers in Posey County should plan for a temporary closure on State Road 68 near Poseyville. The Indiana Department of Transportation says crews will close State Road 68 at Byes Road today to replace a drainage pipe. The initial phase of the project is expected to take one day, and the highway will reopen once the pipe has been installed. INDOT says crews will return on or around Monday, July 6th, to close the road again for several hours while new pavement is placed over the repaired area. During both closures, drivers should follow the official detour using State Road 165, State Road 66, and State Road 69.
The ramps to and from USI and University Parkway are back open. Officials with the Lloyd4U Project say the eastbound entrance and exit ramps reopened after being closed for about a month. The closure allowed crews to pave the new ramps and complete finishing work. While drivers can once again use those ramps, officials say construction isn't over yet. Crews will continue working in the area along the eastbound lanes, so motorists should stay alert to workers and changing traffic patterns.

Extreme heat is delaying the start of live racing at Ellis Park. Track officials say opening day, originally scheduled for Thursday, has been pushed back one day to Friday because of dangerous heat in the forecast. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the area, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 109 degrees. Officials say the horses that were scheduled to race on Thursday will instead compete on Monday, July 6th. The race schedule for Friday, Saturday's Fourth of July card, and Sunday remains unchanged.
