The Posey County Solid Waste District is having a Tox-Away Day this afternoon from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. This will take place at the Mount Vernon Recycling Center on Lower Mount Vernon Road. This opportunity allows you a chance to get rid of household chemicals, non-latex paints, herbicides, insecticides, non-alkaline batteries and pool chemicals safely. If you have any questions about what they will accept, contact the Solid Waste District office at 812-838-1613.

 

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is collaborating with Burdette Park to host events weeks. Starting today, library officials will have stories, songs, and crafts for children through the age of five. This will be at the new Anchor Playground near the front of the park. It starts at 3:00 PM every Thursday through June and July, except for July 4th. Officials say there is also now a free little library on the playground.

 

There are a few events coming up in Posey County this weekend.

One event on Saturday in New Harmony will be the 22nd Annual Golden Raintree Antique show and cruise in. There will be vendors located at the gymnasium on Main Street from 9-5 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday for the antique show. As for the cruise in, that will be on Saturday from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Cars, trucks, bikes, and tractors are all welcome.

And coming up Saturday evening at Riverbend Park in Mount Vernon will be the next Movies Under The Stars. The movie this Saturday will be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. This time it is being sponsored by the Mount Vernon Garden Club. Admission is free. Just bring your lawn chairs and blankets. The movie will start at dark.

 

The IHSAA Class 2A Baseball Semi-State Schedule has been released and the North Posey Vikings will take on Greencastle this Saturday morning at 10:00 AM central time for the semi-final. The game will be played at Plainfield High School. If the Vikings win their first game, they will then play in the championship game at 7:00 PM Saturday night. If you can't make it to the game on Saturday, Posey County Radio will have you covered on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at NorthPoseyRadio.com.  

 

The Evansville Purple Aces Baseball team will get their Super Regional Series underway tomorrow at 2:00 PM Central Time in Knoxville against the #1 team in College Baseball, the Tennessee Volunteers. It’s the first Super Regional that Evansville has ever played in. It’s a best-of-three series and the winner will advance to the College World Series in Omaha. Game Two will be on Saturday at 10:00 AM Central Time. The “If Necessary” game would be played Sunday evening at 5:00 PM Central Time.

 

From Major League Baseball on Wednesday…the St. Louis Cardinals were able to salvage a game in their 3-game set at the Houston Astros, 4-2. The Redbirds improve to 29-31 on the season. St. Louis just completed a 9-game road-trip in which they went 4-5. The Cardinals return home tonight to start a 4-game series with the Colorado Rockies at 6:45 PM.
