A former Posey County Solid Waste employee is heading to prison after admitting to stealing more than $25,000 from the county. The Posey County Prosecutor’s Office says 46-year-old Jennifer Tinsley was sentenced to two years with the Indiana Department of Correction. Under the sentence, she’ll serve the first six months in prison, with the remainder on Posey County Community Corrections. According to officials, Tinsley pleaded guilty to stealing funds from Posey County Solid Waste while employed there during 2023 and 2024. Investigators with the Indiana State Police and the Indiana State Board of Accounts say Tinsley received more than $21,000 in unauthorized checks, along with more than $4,500 in fraudulent payroll checks. Authorities say the total loss amounted to just over $25,850. Court records show Tinsley admitted to investigators that she forged vendor and payroll checks written to herself. Officials say following the sentencing hearing, Tinsley was immediately taken into custody by the Posey County Sheriff’s Office to begin serving her sentence.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department is looking to hire two new officers. Department officials say they are seeking motivated individuals ready to serve the community. Applications will be accepted through June 18th, with testing tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, June 30th at 4:00 PM. Starting salary is more than 61,000 dollars per year, with additional pay after probation or successful completion of field training. The department also offers longevity pay increases, a qualifying lateral transfer bonus, shift differential pay, and take-home vehicles. Benefits include vacation, personal and sick days, along with health, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Required duty equipment, including body armor and weapons, is also provided. Applications can be completed in person or downloaded online through the Mt. Vernon Police Department page on the city’s website.
Mt. Vernon Parks and Recreation Department has announced that Market Nights are returning this summer. The first Market Night is on Monday, June 8th and will continue each Monday evening through July 27th from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM. There will be food trucks, live music, and entry is free.

USI Baseball lost in the Ohio Valley Conference yesterday vs Little Rock, 7-3. The Screaming Eagles have gone 1-1 so far in the tournament and now face elimination today at 4:30 PM.
Evansville Baseball fell in their first Missouri Valley Conference game last night to Southern Illinois, 8-4. The Purple Aces now face elimination with an early game this morning at 10:00 AM.
From Major League Baseball on Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals got shutout by the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-0. The Cardinals are 28-20 on the season and the rubber game of the 3-game series is this afternoon at 12:15 PM.
The Chicago Cubs got swept at home by the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-0. The Cubs have lost 5-straight games and are 29-21 overall. They have today off, before welcoming the Houston Astros tomorrow afternoon.
The Cincinnati Reds picked up a 9-4 victory in Philadelphia vs the Phillies. The Reds have won back-to-back games as they took 2-of-3 in the series. Cincinnati is 26-24 on the year and have today off as they return home to face the Cardinals on Friday.
Out west, the Chicago White Sox lost their series finale at the Mariners, 5-4. The White Sox lost 2-of-3 and are 25-24. They are off today and take on the Giants in San Francisco on Friday.
