Tomorrow night is Week 5 of the High School Football season. Several tri-state teams continue to be ranked in the AP rankings. In Class 5A, Castle is 10th and North is 11th. Class 4A has Reitz 2nd and Memorial 4th. In Class 3A, Heritage Hills is 3rd and Gibson Southern is 12th. Class 2A features North Posey ranked 6th and Mater Dei is 11th.

Tomorrow evening the North Posey Vikings travel to Heritage Hills to play the Patriots at 7:00 PM. Both teams are 4-0 on the season. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.

The Mt. Vernon Wildcats play host to the Forest Park Rangers tomorrow night at 6:30 PM. The Wildcats are 3-1 on the year and will be playing for their 4th-straight win. The Rangers also have a record of 3-1. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have you covered on the radio on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.

 

Coming up this weekend in New Harmony is the Kunstfest. It will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM and on Sunday from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. You can visit our Facebook page at Posey County Radio to view the Kunstfest map and schedule of events.

 

The Mt. Vernon Police Department is hiring once again. Applications will be accepted through October 6th for this round of hiring. Starting pay is $52,300 and goes to $54,300 after the first year. Qualifying lateral officers may be eligible for a $10,000 hiring bonus.

 

Posey County Council on Aging announced that coming up tomorrow morning, they will be hosting a meeting about scamming. The Mt. Vernon Police Department will be there to talk about scams. It starts at 10:00 AM on Friday morning and is open to the community. The location of the meeting is 611 West 8th Street in Mt. Vernon. If you have any questions, you can call Posey County Council on Aging at 812-838-4656.

  • Mt. Vernon Volleyball plays at Princeton with the JV match at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match will follow around 7:00 PM.
  • Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer is home against Pike Central at 5:30 PM.
  • Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer travels to Harrison at 5:30 PM.
  • Mt. Vernon Boys Tennis is on the road to battle Southridge at 5:00 PM.
  • Mt. Vernon Girls Golf plays host to Reitz at 4:00 PM.
  • North Posey Volleyball is at home this evening against South Spencer. JV match is at 5:30 PM and the Varsity at 7:00 PM.
  • North Posey Girls Soccer welcomes Southridge at 5:00 PM.
  • North Posey Boys Tennis is at Forest Park at 4:30 PM.

 

  • USI Women’s Soccer (1-5-2) is at Kansas City at 7:00 PM.

 

Sports From Wednesday:

  • USI Volleyball (4-7) lost in 4 sets last night at IUPUI.

 

  • Evansville Men’s Soccer (2-2-2) battled Lindenwood to a 2-2 tie at home on campus.  

 

 

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (65-81) picked up a series win in Baltimore as they beat the Orioles 1-0. The Redbirds finished their 9-game road-trip with a 6-3 record. St. Louis has tonight off before starting a 3-game weekend series at home against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday night.

 

  • The Chicago Cubs (78-69) fell in Colorado yesterday for a second-straight day to the Rockies, 7-3. Chicago has today off before heading to Arizona on Friday.

 

  • The Cincinnati Reds (76-71) were able to hang on for a 4-3 win in Detroit against the Tigers last night. The two teams wrap of the series this afternoon at 12:10 PM. The Reds are looking for a 3-game sweep and their 4th-straight win.
