State highway work is set to impact drivers in Posey County starting next week. Beginning May 4th, crews from the Indiana Department of Transportation will close State Road 165 between State Road 66, just south of Poseyville, and State Road 68 near Poseyville. The closure is scheduled to last through May 15th as crews complete a chip-and-seal road maintenance project. During this time, the roadway will be closed to traffic, but local access will be maintained. A detour route will be clearly marked for motorists traveling between Poseyville and Wadesville. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow posted detour signs. INDOT says the project is expected to wrap up by late night on May 15th, weather permitting.

The University of Southern Indiana is expanding opportunities for students and working professionals with a new lineup of short-term credential programs. The university has launched a series of undergraduate and graduate microcredentials, designed to provide flexible, career-focused training in an online format. First introduced in the fall of 2025, the programs will continue to expand throughout 2026, offering multiple start dates and new subject areas. University officials say the microcredentials are aimed at adult learners, working professionals, and students looking to build specific skills without committing to a full degree program. Courses are taught by USI faculty and count for academic credit, appearing on official university transcripts. Right now, the credentials are offered as stand-alone programs, but there are plans to eventually allow students to stack them toward certificates or degrees. Current undergraduate offerings include areas like childhood health and well-being, public history, and state and local government. Graduate-level options include fundraising, policy making, program evaluation, and nonprofit leadership. Several programs will begin as early as May, with additional courses rolling out through the summer and fall. More microcredential options are also in development.
