Basketball fans throughout the tri-state will see local history made this fall when the University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana meet in the inaugural River City Classic. The neutral-site men's basketball game is scheduled for Saturday, November 7th, at Ford Center in downtown Evansville, with tipoff set for 7:00 PM. The event was announced yesterday by officials from both universities, the Evansville Regional Sports Commission, and presenting sponsor Old National Bank. The matchup will be the first regular season meeting with both schools being Division One. The Evansville Regional Sports Commission will manage and operate the event, which is designed to celebrate the city's rich basketball tradition while bringing together two hometown rivals on one stage. To create a neutral-site atmosphere, USI fans are encouraged to purchase seats on the south end of Ford Center, while UE fans are encouraged to sit on the north end. Tickets for the River City Classic will go on sale to the public on July 15th through the Ford Center box office. More information is available through the Evansville Regional Sports Commission.

 

One of the Tri-State's longest-running summer traditions returns this week as the annual Haubstadt Sommerfest gets underway on Thursday. Festival organizers say the three-day event will feature food, rides, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities, drawing visitors from across the region. The festivities begin Thursday evening with the opening of rides, food booths, and the popular Bierstube, followed by live music from Lindsey Williams. Activities continue Friday with rides, food, and another night of live entertainment featuring Happy New Month on the main stage. Saturday's schedule includes the annual Laufenfest 5K and Lil' Dutch Run in the morning, followed by the traditional Sommerfest Parade at 1:00 PM. The festival wraps up Saturday night with more food, rides, and live music from That's What She Said. Organizers say Sommerfest remains a celebration of community, tradition, and entertainment for all ages.

 

The America 250 Lantern is coming to Poseyville Carnegie Public Library next Monday. A replica of the historic lantern what commemorates Paul Revere’s famous ride and the events that helped shape our nation’s history. This special lantern is traveling across all 92 Indiana counties as part of the America 250 Indiana celebration, honoring the spirit of liberty, patriotism, and community. The event is free and all ages are welcome. It’s from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM next Monday, June 22nd at Poseyville Carnegie Public Library.

 

Yesterday, the Pocket Athletic Conference announced their all-conference teams for Softball and there are several players from both Mt. Vernon and North Posey recognized. From Mt. Vernon Softball, Alaina Allyn was named first-team all-conference, and Aubrey Grimes was honorable mention all-conference. From North Posey Softball, Lily Hester was named first-team all-conference. Madison Versteeg and Paige Vaughn each were named to second-team all-conference. Vikings Softball finished tied for 5th in the Pocket Athletic Conference with an 8-4 conference record and Wildcats Softball finished 7th with a 7-5 conference record.
