News:

A 26-year-old Mt. Vernon man will spend a total of 16 years in prison after convictions in both Posey and Vanderburgh counties. Blake Weinzapfel was sentenced last week in Posey Circuit Court to six years for a Level 5 felony of resisting law enforcement. Under Indiana law and a plea agreement, that sentence will be served consecutively to a 10-year sentence he received Monday in Vanderburgh Superior Court. In Vanderburgh County, Weinzapfel pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including a Level 4 felony for resisting law enforcement and a habitual offender enhancement. The Posey County case stemmed from an incident on November 9th, 2025, when officers went to a Mt. Vernon residence to arrest Weinzapfel on an outstanding felony warrant from Vanderburgh County. Police surrounded the home and, after deputies and a K-9 unit arrived, Weinzapfel surrendered. Authorities say he then resisted officers as they attempted to handcuff him, and one officer suffered moderate injuries during the struggle. Weinzapfel will be transferred to the Indiana Department of Correction to serve his combined 16-year sentence.
