Governor Mike Braun has signed an executive order to strengthen paid parental leave for state employees. The executive order also provides paid childbirth leave for women recovering from giving birth, as well as paid leave for those grieving from the tragedy of losing a baby. Under this new executive order, all employed women who give birth are eligible for six weeks paid childbirth recovery leave, and up to eight weeks paid childbirth leave for employees who deliver via C-section. All full-time state employees may receive up to 150 hours of paid parental leave (75 hours for part-time employees) following the birth or adoption of a child.
Starting today, the Posey County Health Department is hosting free Community Clinics on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month. The location is the MSD of North Posey’s Ascension St. Vincent Tri-State Clinic from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM. The address is 4922 Hwy 165, Poseyville, Indiana. Services offered at the clinic include immunizations, vital sign checks, glucose monitoring, they will provide lice treatment kits, and various other testing as needed.
Tonight, postseason play gets underway for high school boys basketball teams across the state of Indiana. The Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball team plays their first Sectional game this evening at 7:30 PM against Heritage Hills in the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Boonville High School. You will be able to hear the game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. The Wildcats finished the regular season with a 12-12 record. They lost to Heritage Hills in the regular season back on December 17th at home in overtime, 62-57.
North Posey Boys Basketball will play their first Sectional game tomorrow night against Tell City at 5:30 PM. The Vikings play in the Class 2A Sectional 48 hosted by Tell City High School. North Posey went 11-11 in the regular season and just lost to Tell City on the road on February 22nd, 60-57. The Ohio Valley Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments are set to return to the Ford Center this week. Games will begin tomorrow at 12:30 PM and continue until the evening of Saturday, March 8. USI Women’s Basketball is the #5 seed in the tournament and will play tomorrow at 12:30 PM against the #8 seed Tennessee State. This year marks the eighth consecutive year that the tournament will be held at the Ford Center, with plans to remain until at least 2026. Tickets are available at the box office and online.
Tonight, in Men’s College Basketball…the Indiana Hoosiers play at Oregon at 8:00 PM. The Hoosiers have won 3-straight games and are currently in 9th place in the Big 10 standings with a 9-9 conference record. They are a game behind Oregon, who is in 8th place. IU is 18-11 overall.
#18 Purdue is home against Rutgers at 6:00 PM. The Boilermakers sit at 12-6 in the Big 10 and are in a 3-way tie for 3rd place with Wisconsin and Maryland. Purdue is 20-9 on the year.
#19 Kentucky plays host to LSU at 6:00 PM. The Cats have a conference mark of 8-8 and are in a 3-way tie for 8th place in the SEC standings. Kentucky is 19-10 on the season.
In the NBA this evening…the Indiana Pacers are home as they welcome the Houston Rockets at 6:00 PM. The Pacers have a record of 34-25. They are tied for 4th place with the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Standings.
