North Posey Softball won their season opener against Reitz last night, 8-1. Addie Fullop pitched a complete game as she allowed only 3 hits and recorded 9 strikeouts. At the plate for the Vikings, Ashton Elpers cranked a home run and drove in 4 runs. Sibyle Renshaw went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles.

 

Evansville Men’s Basketball saw their season come to an end in the quarterfinal round of the CBI Tournament last night in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Aces lost to #3 seed Seattle, 71-57. UE had a 34-28 lead at halftime but got outscored 43-23 in the second half. Kenny Strawbridge Jr. was the lone Aces player in double figures with 11 points. Evansville’s season ends with a 17-18 record.

 

USI Women’s Basketball also saw their season end with a lost in the WNIT at home against Wisconsin, 67-62. The Screaming Eagles got outscored in the 4th quarter, 25-7. Ali Saunders scored 18 points. USI’s great season concludes with a 25-7 record.

 

From the NBA last night…the Indiana Pacers took care of the Clippers in Los Angeles, 133-116. Pascal Siakam poured in 31 points, Myles Turner had 24 points, and Tyrese Haliburton chipped in 21 points. The Pacers shot 60% from 3-points range (17-28). Indiana improves to 41-32 and will close a 5-game road-trip in Chicago against the Bulls on Wednesday night. The Pacers are currently 3-1 on the trip.

 

The Men’s NCAA Division-II Elite 8 gets underway at Ford Center in downtown Evansville today. Evansville is no stranger to this event, having hosted the tournament 27 times since 1957, with this year making it five-straight years. This year's favorites are the top-seeded, Minnesota State Mavericks and defending champion Nova Southeastern out of Davie, Florida. Games begin today at 12:00 PM. There are four games today at 12:00 PM, 2:30 PM, 6:00 PM, and 8:30 PM. The Final Four is on Thursday and the Championship game is set for Saturday.

 

Coming up tonight in local high school sports…North Posey Baseball plays at South Knox at 5:00 PM and North Posey Softball heads to Henderson County at 5:30 PM.
