Authorities in Vanderburgh County have identified a suspect in connection with a deadly shooting in a theater parking lot on the westside of Evansville Tuesday evening. According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, 19-year-old Kardae Langley has been named as one of the individuals involved. Deputies were called to the AMC Theater parking lot along Pearl Drive just before 7:00 PM on reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they discovered a Dodge Durango down a wooded embankment east of the lot. Inside, they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say he had been shot twice in the torso. Surveillance video from the theater helped piece together what happened. Authorities say the footage shows a silver Lexus parked next to the Durango. Three people exited the Lexus and got into the Durango. At one point, one individual got out and began moving items from the Durango to the Lexus. Shortly after, the Durango suddenly drove off, circling the parking lot before going down the embankment. Two people were seen jumping from the moving vehicle and running back to the Lexus, which then left the scene. Investigators later tracked that vehicle using license plate reader technology to a restaurant parking lot on North Green River Road, where it was stopped. Langley was identified as the driver and taken in for questioning. According to court documents, Langley told deputies he had driven two other individuals to the location to meet the victim for what was supposed to be a purchase of marijuana vape cartridges. He said one of the passengers planned to rob the victim and was believed to be armed. Langley told investigators that while he was outside transferring items, an argument broke out inside the Durango. He then heard two gunshots. He later fled the scene with the other two individuals. During the drive, Langley said one of them admitted to shooting the victim and called it a mistake. Authorities say Langley later paid $500 for some of the stolen merchandise before dropping the two off. The investigation is ongoing, and officials say additional charges or arrests may be forthcoming.
