Authorities have identified the victims of a tragic, deadly incident in Posey County as a young married couple. Back on March 30th, first responders were called to the scene of a wreck involving an off-road vehicle on Highway 69 at Copperline Road in Posey County. At the time of the crash, authorities said that a man had been pronounced dead at the scene. That man was 37-year-old Joseph Alldredge. Investigators say that Joseph's wife, 37-year-old Ashley Alldredge, was also gravely injured in the wreck. She was life-flighted to the hospital, where she was also pronounced dead. Authorities say the married couple lived in Mt. Vernon. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been started in the wake of the couple's passing. Officials with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources are continuing to investigate the deadly incident.

 

Posey County 911 Regional Dispatch is now accepting applications and resumes for two Part Time Dispatchers. Applicants need to have flexible availability for weekends and swing shifts, as well as be able to dedicate at least 32 hours a week during 12 weeks of training followed by a minimum of 12 hours a month once training is complete. This part-time position could lead to a full-time position if one were to become available. Applicants must have a High School Diploma/GED. Candidates must be able to type 40 WPM, handle many tasks, and have excellent communication skills. Experience in public safety is preferred but not required. Applicants must be able to pass a background check. An application can be obtained at the Dispatch Office which is located at 305 Mill Street in Mt. Vernon…Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Applications and resumes will be accepted until 8:00 AM on Monday, April 15th.

 

Mt. Vernon High School has hired a new Girls Varsity Basketball Head Coach. At the regular Board Meeting Monday night, the MSD of Mt. Vernon hired Charles “Rocky” Alderman to lead the girls basketball program. In addition, Coach Alderman will teach mathematics at the high school. For the last 5 years, he has been the assistant boys basketball coach at Washington High School under legendary Head Coach, Gene Miiler. Also, for the past 2 years has been a junior high volleyball coach. Coach Alderman attended the University of Evansville and was the Head Student Manger for the Men’s Basketball program when the Purple Aces were under the direction of Head Coach Marty Simmons.

 

 

From local college sports last night, Evansville Baseball picked up a win at home over Austin Peay, 13-6 and USI baseball earned a win at Murray State, 10-5.

 

In Major League Baseball from last night, the St. Louis Cardinals grabbed another win in San Diego over the Padres, 5-2. Willson Contreras blasted the go-ahead two-run homer in the 6th inning. Miles Mikolas earned the win on the mound as he pitched six innings. The Cardinals are now 3-3 and wrap up their west coast road trip by going for the 3-game sweep of the Padres today at 3:10 PM.

 

The Chicago Cubs blasted the Colorado Rockies at home, 12-2. Cubs have now won 3-straight games to improve to 3-2. The two teams play again tonight in Chicago at 6:40 PM.  

 

The Cincinnati Reds fell last night, 9-4 in Philadelphia to Phillies. Cincy drops to 3-2 and will finish up their series in Philly today at 3:05 PM.

 

Coming up tonight in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Baseball plays host to Mater Dei at 5:00 PM and North Posey Baseball welcomes Carmi at 5:00 PM.

 

From professional sports in the NBA…the Indiana Pacers play in Brooklyn against the Nets at 6:30 PM. The Pacers are 43-33 on the year.
