Evansville Fire Department Chief Paul Anslinger has been arrested on several felony charges after turning himself in. Police said back in April that an active investigation was opened involving Anslinger and missing tools. Anslinger took over as interim chief for several months after Mike Connelly stepped down and retired. A new report shows he purchased several tools, some that were later found to be missing. According to police, when he was questioned about the tools, Anslinger said they weren’t stolen and knew where they were. Police say Anslinger was in possession of a handgun owned by EFD, that was turned in by a former employee. Anslinger is also accused of transferring $4,451 from the Evansville Fire Department Foundation to an LLC that he owns. Anslinger was booked into the jail on a $10,000 surety bond around 3:45 PM yesterday and bonded out less than an hour later.
