The Posey County Health Department says they are excited to announce that they can provide screening mammograms for any woman from Posey County that does not have insurance, or insurance that does not cover screening mammograms. This is through funding provided by the Health First Indiana initiative to improve public health throughout the state of Indiana. So, if you are a woman 40 years of age or older and in need of a screening mammogram for breast cancer, you can contact the Posey County Health Department to discuss getting your mammogram scheduled. The number to call is 812-838-1328.

 

The Mt. Vernon Fireworks on the Ohio is set for this Friday evening at Riverbend Park. The overall event starts at 5:00 PM. There will be live music by Damien Jackson from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The Fireworks will begin at dusk. There will be several food vendors that will be there ready to serve before the fireworks. The Eagles, Little Boondocks, Sandy Brown, JT’s, Bodes Snow Cones, Little Jimmy’s Italian Ice, Seasons Creations, and JB Barnyard will all be there.

 

In Evansville, Fireworks on the Ohio is set for tomorrow at the Evansville Riverfront. Officials with the Downtown Evansville Economic Improvement District say the event will start at 6:00 PM with 25 food trucks opening along Riverside Drive (from Court to Cherry Street). Free activities will be featured at Riverside & Main, including face painting, yard games, a patriotic balloon arch for photo memories, and a special performance by the Boom Squad at 6:30 PM. The grand finale, Fireworks on the Ohio, will happen at dusk, which will be approximately 9:15 PM. It’s a 17-minute show that will happen rain or shine.

 

The Posey County Solid Waste District posted on Facebook that the July Tox-Away Day will take place on Thursday, July 11th at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. This will be a chance to properly dispose of old household chemicals, pesticides, non-latex paint, non-alkaline batteries, etc. For more information, you can contact the district at 812-838-1613.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals started their road trip off last night in Pittsburgh with a 7-4 win over the Buccos. Nolan Gorman launched a grand slam for the Redbirds. St. Louis improves to a season-best four games over 500 at 44-40. Game two of the series between the Cardinals and the Pirates is tonight at 5:40 PM.

The Chicago Cubs dropped the opening game of their series at home with the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-4. Chicago is now 39-47 on the year. Game two of the series between the Phillies and the Cubs in Chicago is this evening at 7:05 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds picked up a win to start their series at the New York Yankees last night, 5-4. The Reds earned their 40th win to move to 40-45 on the season. Game two of the series between the Reds and Yankees in New York is tonight at 6:05 PM.
