News:

Posey County residents are being asked to take note of a new emergency notification number. The Posey County Emergency Management Agency says its new Rave Alert emergency notification system is now active. During the transition, weather alerts and other non-emergency public safety messages may appear on caller ID from 812-838-1333, which is the agency's main phone number. Officials say calls from that number may include severe weather watches and warnings, tornado and thunderstorm information, flood notifications, road closures, and other important public safety updates. Emergency Management emphasizes these calls are not telemarketing or spam. Residents are encouraged to answer calls from 812-838-1333 or listen to any voicemail messages, as the information could be important for their safety or daily travel. The new Rave Alert system is part of an effort to improve emergency communications throughout Posey County.

Mt. Vernon High School has a new leader for its swimming and diving programs. The school has named Matthew Vaught as the new head coach of the Wildcats boys and girls swimming and diving teams, while also taking over as Aquatics Director. Vaught is already a familiar face in the community, having spent the past four years coaching with the Mt. Vernon Swim Team. School officials say his experience and relationships with local athletes and families made him a natural choice for the expanded role. A graduate of F.J. Reitz High School, Vaught has been involved in competitive swimming since he was six years old. During his high school career, he earned Academic All-City and Academic All-State honors, served as a team captain, and was named his team's Most Valuable Player. Before joining the Mt. Vernon Swim Team, Vaught spent a decade coaching the Helfrich Swim Team, working with swimmers of all ages and experience levels. School officials say they look forward to Vaught leading the Wildcats swimming and diving programs into the future.
