As we head into Week 7 of the high school football regular season this Friday, there are a pair of Posey County football players that are up for the Courier and Press Player of the Week Award. Those 2 players are North Posey’s Jed Galvin and Mt. Vernon’s Grant Lippe. Galvin had 228 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns last week against Tecumseh and became the program’s career rushing leader in the Vikings 48-0 Week 6 win over Tecumseh. Lippe had 128 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns in the Wildcats 21-14 win over Boonville this past week. You can vote as much as you would like at courierpress.com until 10:00 AM on Friday.

 

The updated Indiana Football Coaches Association rankings were released earlier this week and the North Posey Vikings are ranked 7th in Class 2A. Other tri-state teams that are ranked includes Castle at 6th in Class 5A. Reitz has dropped to 6th in Class 4A. In Class 3A, Memorial is still 1st, Heritage Hills 2nd, Mater Dei 4th, Gibson Southern 6th, and Southridge is 12th.

 

Last night in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Volleyball lost in straight sets at home to Gibson Southern. The Wildcats drop to 4-16 overall. North Posey Volleyball cruised past Wood Memorial in 3-sets at home. The Vikings record improves to 15-6 on the season. North Posey Girls Soccer defeated Mt. Vernon at home, 2-0. The Lady Vikings improve to 8-5 on the year and Mt. Vernon falls to 6-9 on the season.

 

The West Side Nut Club Festival gets underway this Sunday with Family Day. Officials with the West Side Nut Club say presale wristbands are available now for a discounted price. If you're planning on spending some time on the rides during this year's Fall Festival, you can get an unlimited ride wristband for $25 until midnight on Sunday. The Nut Club says this is a chance to save $5 off the regular price by purchasing ahead of time online.

 

Coming up this weekend in New Harmony at Harmonie State Park, is the Harvest Craft Fair. It will take place on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. There will be 100+ craft vendors, concessions, food trucks, music, pioneer activities, bouncy houses, face painting, free kids’ crafts, and more. Gate fee to Harmonie State Park for this event still applies. It’s 9 dollars for out of state vehicles, 7 dollars for Indiana vehicles, or you can use your annual pass.

 

Tonight, in local high school sports…North Posey Volleyball heads to Boonville for a 5:30 PM JV match and a 7:00 PM varsity contest. Vikings Girls Soccer welcomes White River Valley at 5:30 PM.
