Fire officials in Mt. Vernon say they're seeking applicants for the 2023 hiring process. The Mt. Vernon Fire Department shared the request on Wednesday, with several requirements for potential new hires. According to MVFD, applicants need to be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver's license. According to the fire department, you can't be a convicted felon, and you must also have your high school diploma or GED equivalent. Applications can be picked up at the fire department and are due by March 3rd. You can find the Mt. Vernon Fire Department at 311 College Ave. in Mt. Vernon or call 812-838-3447. 

 

Evansville Police Chief Billy Bolin was recognized as the recipient of the Distinguished Hoosier Award on Wednesday. The Distinguished Hoosier Award is one of the highest honors that Indiana citizens can receive. It’s awarded by the State of Indiana, granted at the discretion of the Governor and given to Hoosiers who have brought honor, distinction and respect to the state.

 

The Evansville Police Department is encouraging interested applicants to act fast. EPD says if you're interested in applying to join the department but have been on the fence, you may want to decide soon. According to EPD, anyone interested in applying should complete their application by noon today, in order to start the hiring process that begins tomorrow. Included in the hiring process is a physical fitness assessment test, a written exam, an oral interview, and an assessment center written exercise. The University of Evansville held the final round of the ninth High School Changemaker Challenge yesterday. A total of 20 individual and team entries were featured at the event, and high school students presented their ideas to a panel of judges for a chance at a scholarship. First place winner, Evansville Day School Senior Tyler Myers, won first place with his idea for an interactive app that educated children about invisible disabilities. Along with the first place win, Myers also received a prize in the form of full tuition paid for four years to the University of Evansville. He hopes to implement his app in schools in the near future.

 

Sports: 

- Evansville Mens Basketball (4-18, 0-11) lost at home last night to Belmont, 73-64. Yacine Toumi and Marvin Coleman II each had 15 points for the Aces. Antoine Smith Jr chipped in with 14 points. 

- From other Mens College Basketball last night...IU (14-6) earned a road win at Minnesota, 61-57. Trayce Jackson-Davis had 25 points and 22 rebounds for the Hoosiers. Butler (11-11) got thumped at #23 Providence, 79-58. Louisville (2-18) fell at Boston College, 75-65. 

- The Indiana Pacers (24-26) were tripped up in Orlando by the Magic, 126-120. Bennedict Mathurin poured in 26 points for the Pacers.
