Posey County Radio News and Sports

News:

High School Football Semi-State is this Friday, and the Mater Dei Wildcats will play for a trip to the State Finals against Linton-Stockton at 6:30 PM. With both Mt. Vernon and North Posey eliminated from postseason play and many Posey County people having some ties to Mater Dei though family and friends, last week we carried the Mater Dei Regional victory last Friday at Triton Central on 106.7 FM WMVI. We will have Mater Dei Football on the radio once again this Friday night, as they play host to 13-0 Linton-Stockton at The Bowl in Evansville. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM. Lance Wilkerson will bring you all the action again over the radio on 106.7 FM WMVI, or online at poseycountyradio.com.

United Way of Posey County posted on Facebook that today is a Give-Back-Day for United Way of Posey County at Zaps Tavern. No coupon is needed, just enjoy lunch, dinner, or purchase gift cards. They say 20% of all sales (minus alcohol) will be donated back.

Evansville’s City Council approved a several million-dollar bond for the Parks Department at yesterday’s meeting. The bond would cover the cost of several projects and equipment needs for the community’s parks. The creation of a pickleball court at Wesselmen Woods was one of the major projects discussed. The plan written proposes to have 24 pickleball courts located in an unused space next to the tennis courts. A few community members were upset by this plan, stating it would affect the current wildlife and nature preservation. Deputy Mayor Steve Schaefer says he is working to ensure the placement of the pickleball courts will be a positive change for the community. The city council approved the bond for all the projects presented. Final designs and construction plans for the pickleball courts should be finished by the end of the year.

As the holidays approach, Evansville Police are reminding residents to buckle up. Yesterday was "National Seat Belt Day." Evansville Police say no matter where you sit in a vehicle, wearing a seat belt is proven to save lives. Authorities say more than 46,000 people are killed in car accidents in the U.S. every year and an estimated 4.4 million people sustain injuries that require medical attention. EPD says direct medical costs add up to more than $300 million. Authorities say using seat belts helps save lives and minimize the risk of serious injuries. "National Seat Belt Day" was created to raise awareness and encourage people to practice car safety.
