Rescue crews were called to a car in the water at the Mt. Vernon riverfront yesterday morning. It happened before 10:30 AM Tuesday. Authorities say a tow truck slid down the hill trying to pull the car out. Officials say the truck and the car were pulled out, and nobody was hurt.

We are still struggling to get above the freezing mark temperature wise, therefore the icy and slick road conditions haven’t improved much in the last 24 hours. Due to the road conditions, MSD of Mt. Vernon, MSD of North Posey, and all EVSC Schools have canceled school today for a second-straight day. College classes at USI have resumed today.

Mt. Vernon High School is set to host the Girls Basketball Class 3A Sectional 32 this week. Last night’s first round games were postponed due to the road conditions. Vernon Girls Basketball will play Memorial tonight at 5:30 PM. Then, Mater Dei and Boonville will follow at 7:00 PM. These games are still on as of now. If that changes, we will provide an update this afternoon.

North Posey Girls Basketball is set to play in the Class 2A Sectional 48 this week at Forest Park. Their first-round game against Forest Park last night was also postponed to this evening. The Lady Vikings will now play Forest Park tonight at 7:00 PM. We will keep you updated on the status of that game this afternoon.

The race for Mayor of Evansville officially has a democratic candidate. Stephanie Terry filed yesterday at the Election Office where she formally began her candidacy. It has been known since Friday that Stephanie Terry was going to be running, but she made it official yesterday. Terry says her main focuses are improving education, working on public safety by addressing poverty and mental illness, providing support to small business, and improving equity and diversity throughout the city. She also wants to improve the sidewalks. Terry is the first democratic candidate to run for mayor since 2015. The other declared candidates are Cheryl Musgrave and Natalie Rascher. Gabe Whitley was going to run, but he has since withdrawn from the race.
